Release date, and why the stores disagree
Updated 2026-10-18
I had two dates in front of me and I did not want to flatten them. The Bandai Namco EU patch note, dated 16 October 2026, is the sentence I trust. Store pages round to a single day.
The timeline
| When | What |
|---|---|
| 9 June 2026 | Announced. The EU news list and the anniversary project coverage put it on that Nintendo Direct day. |
| 15 October 2026 (Thursday) | Switch, Switch 2, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S. The patch note says 'Today, Thursday, October 15, we released'. |
| 16 October 2026 (Friday) | Steam. Same note: 'The STEAM version will be released on Friday, October 16.' |
| 16 October 2026 on some store pages | EU product page, Nintendo US, Xbox US, and Metacritic print 16 October for the game as a whole. |
The US Steam API returned Oct 15, 2026 when rechecked on 18 October. That differs from the publisher's Steam date of 16 October. These regional and source-level date labels do not establish an exact unlock hour. No universal UTC unlock minute was found in the official sources checked for this page.
Day-one patch, same week
Update v2.0.0 adds a Japanese-only font style, lets New Game Plus carry titles, and fixes some text. It does not mention the Switch diagonal-stick issue. The official size footnote matters: Switch 300 MB, PS5 500 MB, and PS4 1.3 GB are update files; Switch 2 7 GB, Xbox Series X|S 8 GB, and Steam 7 GB include the base game. These are approximate publisher figures, not an extra 7–8 GB patch on top of every installation.
The original game is a different calendar. Japan PS1: 30 November 2000. North America, under the name Tales of Destiny II: September 2001 (Wikipedia says the 18th, RPG Site says the 10th). PSP: 3 March 2005 in Japan. I keep those three years on the versions page so this one stays about 2026.
Figures on this page were checked against the named sources on 18 October 2026. Store prices move; open the store link before you pay.
